Simplified Aspect Ratio Chart for CafePress Images

On the CafePress® forums one common question is "How many different images of the same design do I have to make?" Products that are the same shape, same aspect ratio, and non-bleed (the image does not go to the edges of the product) can use the same image regardless of size. But even products that don't share all those things might be able to share images. When the background is white or transparent the fit doesn't have to be as perfect. And you don't have to use the entire image area for non-bleed items, like apparel. Experiment! This is a simplified image size/aspect ratio chart for various products at CafePress. It will make it possible for you to easily see which products can share the same image, and which ones might depending upon the shape and background. See the image size page for more information on what it all means. See the Product Image chart to see the minimum recommended image sizes for each product. Some products can be printed either horizontally or vertically. The posters don't have a set aspect ratio because they are trimmed to fit. See the quick chart for just the aspect ratio list. If you have a transparent background and design for the circular shape then your design can fit all of these, plus all the tiles, plus the shirts. If your background is not transparent then either it can cover the entire image (i.e. be a square) and useable on these round items and on the tiles (but awkward on the shirts) or it can be round and useable on these items and the shirts, but awkward on the titles.
Framed Tile Tile Box Tile Coaster	2000	2000	1.000	bleed	If the background is colored then it isn't a good idea to use the same design for the shirts. A square image on a shirt usually looks tacky. The actual design, of course, makes a difference. If the background is transparent then images that fit the tiles can also be used on the shirts.

* Posters are trimmed to size, so they don't have a set aspect ratio.

What do the colors mean? The colors make it easier to see products with the same aspect ratio. Keep in mind that even if they share the same aspect ratio, two products can't always share exactly the same image. For example, the rectangular sticker and the oval sticker have the same aspect ratio. But the oval sticker is a different shape. As a result all images created for the oval sticker will properly fit the rectangular one, but the reverse is not always true.
